Wow! Check this out…

www.thebasementonline.com

This is a weekly church service geared for young poeple, but attracting ALL people in Alabama, and across the country. What if we all had this kind of excitement and energy when it came to our relationship with Jesus, and the way we communicated it to others? Imagine the possiblities of a truly unashamed, excited, passionate generation of young people truly in love with Jesus and what He’s done for them! They’re endless! The common theme however for all of us, is to live out our faith quietly, and REST on knowing we’re going to heaven one day, and wandering through life looking for the next thing, and the next thing that will entertain us for the time being.  All to often, we (I) see things like www.thebasementonline.com and I wish they were here in our area, when I (we) should instead be thinking about and strategizing about how I (we) can start it up right here!

Letter to teen guys

Hey fellas! (and any ladies who read this)
This “letter” was posted by a youth pastor I know from New Hampshire. You can check out his blog here if you choose to…

It’s written with young men in mind, and I thought in light of the series we just started, “I-Life” which focuses on relationships, it might be good read, and perhaps provoke some thoughts. Lemme know what comes from it, if anything…

Dear Teenage Boys, (actually, let me call you young men, I know being a teen you must hate being called a boy…)

The truth is you are becoming men. That being said, there are some responsibilities that you need to step into. I know, I said it, that dreaded word – RESPONSIBILITY. As scary as the word may be, it’s time to face the facts. You are responsible for some things now. To make matters worse, your responsibilities will only grow from here on in. It doesn’t get easier so I hope you really enjoyed the carefree days of your youth.

For the rest of your life you will be faced with choices. Choices that bring with them consequences, Choices that effect more people than just yourself. Choices that can either set you up to have a great future and choices that can make your life far more difficult than it is meant to be. How do you make your decisions? Do you just “go with your gut”? Are your choices made purely by how you feel? If it makes you happy will that be the choice that you make? Do you ask others for advice? Do you seek any guidance at all?

New Series, “I-Life” starts 9.23.09

I-Life starts 9.23.09
I-Life starts 9.23.09

Ever have a hard time navigating your relationships?! You’re not alone, relationships today can be so challenging. Before I go any further, let me clear something up…

I’m not referring to your 896,542 “friends” on facebook, or the “friends” you only talk to online, or through text messages, or your second grade boyfriend/girlfriend you never talked to when you saw them. Ah the memories! I’m talking about the everyday, going-thru-life relationships. These are the relationships we all need in order to get through this life sometimes, but for whatever reason, when we’re in those relationships, we have difficulty navigating them, and all of the challenges that come with them. Why?

Many reasons. Sometimes we enter into a relationship pretending to be something we’re not, or we find out that someone we’re in a relationship with isn’t who we thought they were. Many times we end up getting hurt, or we end up hurting someone else, and the relationship ends badly, leaving us trusting less than we did before the relationship began. And more often than not the relationships we’re in, are superficial and shallow, and we know nothing about the other person and they know nothing about us, because we’re protecting ourself from potential hurt…sound familiar?? Most people feel your pain, and are in need of some help that can show them how to make their relationships better.

Join us at ACTIVATE youth ministry this Wednesday night 9.23.09 @ 7pm as we kick off a 5 week series called “I-Life.” During this series we will look at 5 relational rules from the bible that can be applied to the relationships we’d like to fix, relationships we’re in now, and the ones we’d like to start in the future. See you there!!
